Cricket is one of the most unique and challenging sports on the planet, and I have spent the best part of three decades finding ways to meet these challenges as a coach. Not many sports involve the broad range of skill sets, formats or playing conditions that cricket does, as well as such a vast gap between training and playing environments.

Working at both ends of the cricket journey I have enjoyed introducing very young children to the sport in a fun environment as well as mentoring young adults on their path to trying to become professional cricketers. However, I have found the bit in between the most engaging which is the transition to hard ball cricket and then the step up to adult cricket.

Developing confidence is key to any young cricketer’s development and this involves narrowing the gap between the training and playing environments and understanding how to deal with pressure. Square One offers that unique environment allowing players to train, learn and play the game and understand decision making within a match scenario. It is a world class facility that has taken the game to a new level with the Indoor Cricket Courts, ARC technology and the Spark pitch system in 4 of the 9 full length lanes.

Quality equipment also plays a vital role in player confidence on both a protection and performance level and I have proudly worked with Gray-Nicolls one of the global leaders throughout my career.
